About
String Theory Accelerator is a founder-led AI studio in Portland, Maine, started in December 2024 by James Wagenheim, a product leader who still writes the code. We build our own AI products and help other companies put AI to work.
I started as a Java developer, building web front ends for mainframe software, and I've never stopped writing code. Everything since has been the same job at a larger scale: understand a system well enough to make it simpler for the people who use it.
At PetSafe I took a new product from an idea to a board go-ahead, coding the prototypes myself, and built the company's direct-to-consumer sales. At Vets First Choice I prototyped an online prescription flow that cut sixteen steps to three. At IDEXX I spent five years as product owner of IDEXX Enterprise, a SaaS platform for corporate veterinary groups in four regions, leading a ten-person team and a budget of about $3 million.
I founded String Theory Accelerator in December 2024 because the most interesting product work had moved to AI, and I wanted to build it rather than manage it. STA builds two products, AEOify and InfillOS, and takes on consulting work where we can be useful: AI governance for a law firm, marketplace strategy for a manufacturer, production AI assistants.
Away from a keyboard, I've sailed a 3,000-mile passage from Mexico to French Polynesia and walked the 2,650-mile Pacific Crest Trail. Both taught me the same thing good products need: careful planning, then steady attention to what is actually happening.
